Notre Dame held its first prospect evaluation camp of the summer on Wednesday, June 1, and there were several prospects who hold division one offers on campus. The two most notable players were Pasadena (Calif.) Maranatha’s Camden Jones and Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth’s Mason Curtis.

Both spoke with Blue & Gold about their Notre Dame camp experience, and by all accounts, it went well for both prospects.

Four-star LB takes in ‘competitive’ camp

Curtis, who ranks as the nation’s No. 144 player and No. 12 linebacker according to the 2024 On3 Consensus, got to tour campus, see some of the monuments and check out the facilities. And of course, there was the camp as well.

“I thought the camp was very competitive and had high energy,” Curtis said. “I think i preformed well. I spent a lot of time with Coach [Chad] Bowden and worked with Coach [Al] Golden. The feedback i received was positive.”

The 6-2, 190-pounder holds a long list of scholarship offers, including South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Michigan, Tennessee, West Virginia, Cincinnati and others. Notre Dame hasn’t offered the four-star recruit yet, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him receive the good news from the staff at some point in the future.

“The coaching staff seems very interested and told me to keep doing what I am doing,” Curtis noted.”

Curtis notes that he plans to be at Oklahoma next weekend and Alabama later this month, plus a locked in date with Ohio State June 21.

6-6 TE learns new techniques from Notre Dame staff

The spring evaluation period was good to Camden Jones. The 6-6, 210-pound rising junior tight end picked up his first five scholarship offers, coming from Cal, Arizona State, Oregon State, Colorado, Colorado State and Washington State.

He flew out from California to the Midwest to participate in the Notre Dame prospect camp Wednesday and had an enjoyable time.

“It was a great experience,” he said. “I had a great time meeting the coaches and getting to learn new techniques from them. I hope to do an unofficial visit to the campus soon.

“I definitely feel like this camp was very productive, and it helped me to fix some of my techniques as a tight end. It was an-all around great camp, and I feel like I did pretty good.”

Jones worked closely with Notre Dame tight ends coach Gerad Parker.

“I spent most of my time with Coach Parker — learning about new techniques,” Jones added. “He said I did pretty good, and he helped me to develop through out the camp and add to my blocking and receiving.”

Jones would be fired up to add an offer from Notre Dame.

“I think I am building a great relationship with the coaches at Notre Dame,” he said. “The coaches that I have talked to gave me positive feedback.”

He plans to camp at UCLA June 4 and will be at Cal June 5.
