The Early-Signing Period is here and Ohio State is set to once again bring in one of the country’s best recruiting classes. Lettermen Row is tracking the Buckeyes recruiting news throughout the signing period as 2022 commitments officially join the Ohio State football program. The latest Letter of Intent is in: Caden Curry has signed with the Buckeyes.

COLUMBUS – Ohio State’s coaching staff was willing to wait as long as it took to find out the decision from Caden Curry.

That patience paid off in a big way on Tuesday as the four-star defensive lineman from Center Grove (Ind.) committed to the Buckeyes on the eve of the early signing period. On Wednesday, he officially joined the program by signing his Letter of Intent with the Buckeyes.

What does this addition do for Ohio State? Let’s break it down.

Who is Caden Curry?

Caden Curry is a 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive lineman who committed to Ohio State on Tuesday, Dec. 14.

Scouting summary: “Caden Curry is an active, high effort defensive lineman who stars for the top high school program in Indiana. Lines up at both defensive tackle and defensive end. Makes plays behind the line of scrimmage at a high rate due to first-step quickness and a relentless motor. Plays hard on a snap-to-snap basis. Totaled over 20 tackles for loss in each of his last three years of high school football. Plays with strong technique and quick hands. Does not appear to be overly long.” – Charles Power, On3 director of scouting and rankings

How did he end up at Ohio State?

Curry was as deliberate and as patient in his recruiting process as any recruit in recent Ohio State history with the exception of J.T. Tuimoloau in the 2021 class. And speaking of Tuimoloau, the five-star defensive end being at Ohio State was one of the selling points for Curry to pick Columbus as his next home.

Buckeyes defensive line coach Larry Johnson gave Curry the vision that he would be part of a “Big Three” along with Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer in Ohio State’s Rushmen room. That vision took off during Curry’s official visit to Columbus during the weekend of the Oregon game. That’s when the Buckeyes emerged as the leader for Curry. After he saw them for both of Ohio State’s wins over Indiana and Penn State, their place as Curry’s top preference was solidified.

Ohio State battled a late push from Alabama, but Johnson and Ryan Day closed out this recruitment to get a win over the Crimson Tide, Indiana, Clemson and Oregon as the other schools in Curry’s final five.
