COLUMBUS — Ohio State consistently and routinely makes top school lists for prospects all across the country. And the Buckeyes have found themselves on another one.

Four-star Wildwood (Fla) wide receiver Vernell Brown III included Ohio State on his initial top 11 schools. Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee and UCF round out the other 10 programs.

Brown is the No. 287 overall prospect and the No. 41 wide receiver according to On3. The On3 Industry Rankings have Brown just a tad lower at No. 310 and No. 42, respectively. Florida currently holds the lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine as well at 44.8 percent.

“It came down to a mixture of things,” Brown III told On3 about his top 11 schools. “What has them high on my list is the way they recruit me, the things they do on the field, how each school develops players at my position and the history of each school. These schools also show the most love and have made it clear that I am a priority. I am still open to other schools, but if they aren’t on this list, they have some catching up to do.”

The 5-foot-10.5, 165-pound prospect made his debut Ohio State visit on June 15, 2023, and turned in an impressive camp performance. He spoke briefly about the Buckeyes to On3’s Chad Simmons, but when it comes to Ohio State and wide receivers, not much has to be said to understand why it is on the list.

“They produce receivers. That is what Ohio State is about.”

The Buckeyes already have one wide receiver in their 2025 class. Four-star Cocoa (Fla) talent Jayvan Boggs committed to Ohio State in October and has been locked in ever since. Wide receiver coach Brian Hartline is looking to score another impressive haul to keep the room stocked full of talent.

The Buckeyes are in contention for several wide receivers including five-star Jaime Ffrench, four-star Daylan McCutcheon, Kaliq Lockett and many more.

As with Brown, he is likely to visit this spring as he continues to navigate his recruitment.
