COLUMBUS — Bryson Rodgers arrived at Ohio State in the winter and immediately got to work in the wide receiver room.

That work is already paying off for the freshman wide receiver. Rodgers shed his black stripe following the Buckeyes training camp practice on Tuesday, a sign that he is officially a member of the Ohio State football roster.

Rodgers was part of a four-man recruiting class at wide receiver that includes five-star receiver Noah Rogers, highly-ranked four-star receivers Brandon Inniss and Carnell Tate, as well as the aforementioned Rodgers.

Of course, Bryson Rodgers was the ‘fourth receiver’ in the class because he was the lowest-ranked of the four signees at the position. But he is making up ground he lost on the recruiting trail on the field for the Buckeyes in camp.

Ohio State coach Brian Hartline detailed what Rodgers must continue to work on in spring ball.

“Bryson has to to do a great job of continuing to take notes, reviewing those notes, having mistakes on a Monday or Tuesday, and then reviewing those notes again on a Wednesday or Thursday,” Hartline said in March. “You can’t let the mistakes of two days ago show back up in two days because that can happen if you’re not organized. So a combination of all that I would say is their main focus.”

Rodgers is doing the right things in his first month of training camp for Ohio State. That’s why he shed his black stripe on Tuesday and officially joined the Buckeyes roster.

Bryson Rodgers latest Buckeyes freshman to shed black stripe

Sophomore offensive linemen George Fitzpatrick and Tegra Tshabola lost their black stripes the second week of this year’s spring practice, along with Ole Miss transfer cornerback Davison Igbinosun and true freshman wide receiver Carnell Tate. Oregon State transfer quarterback Tristan Gebbia and senior walk-on offensive lineman Quinton Burke shed their black stripes later in spring ball. And so did true freshman safety Malik Hartford and true freshman tight end Jelani Thurman. Both Josh Simmons and Victor Cutler Jr. shed their black stripes last week. Freshman offensive tackle Luke Montgomery lost his Saturday after the Buckeyes scrimmage, along with defensive tackle Tywone Malone.

Bryson Rodgers is the latest to shed his.
