COLUMBUS — Ohio State has dealt with plenty of unplanned firsts this season.

Like playing without star wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, having a razor-thin cornerback room or sidelining running back TreVeyon Henderson.

But this Saturday is a first the Buckeyes have planned for over the last few days: an away game.

“It’s a new challenge for us, a new test,” Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said Tuesday. “It’s been unique that we’re in Week Six and haven’t played a game on the road.”

After an impressive five-game homestand that opened the season, No. 3 Ohio State will hit the road this weekend on a business trip to Michigan State for a Big Ten East Division game.

The Buckeyes (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) are fresh off their fifth consecutive win of the season, a 49-10 final over Rutgers. Running back Miyan Williams effectively carried the offense on his shoulders with a final stat line that read 189 yards and five touchdowns on 22 carries.

Ohio State brings the No. 3 total offense (529.6 yards per game) to East Lansing this weekend against a Spartans defense ranked No. 100 in total defense — 411.8 yards allowed per game.

And the Buckeyes-Spartans match-up when Ohio State is on defense isn’t much more favorable. Michigan State enters the week six game with the No. 92 ranked offense and has to go up against the No. 11 ranked defense.

While the relative health of the Buckeyes remains in question in terms of who will be available this weekend, there’s little doubt that whoever is available, will be ready.
