COLUMBUS — Ohio State continues to piece together its defensive recruiting class one prospect at a time.

Four-star Chandler (Ariz) Basha cornerback Miles Lockhart has committed to the Buckeyes.

Lockhart chose Ohio State over Oregon, Wisconsin, Arizona State and others.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect is the No. 38 cornerback, No. 6 Arizona prospect and No. 340 overall prospect according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

While he has long been considered an Ohio State lean, Lockhart made it official on Thursday when he officially announced his commitment. In actuality, he has been committed since his official visit — the weekend of June 23-25.

But why Ohio State?

“Relationships are a really big thing,” Lockhart told Lettermen Row prior to his announcement. “And I built the strongest relationship with all of these coaches and the staff.

“I really enjoy talking with those dudes and being there, like I always can’t wait to get back to Columbus.”

Of those relationships, Lockhart’s strongest with cornerbacks coach Tim Walton.

The two have built up a steady rapport ever since Walton offered Lockhart last June after a recruiting camp. It was Lockhart’s mix of speed and skills at the camp that blew Ohio State away, and from there the recruitment took off.

Lockhart plays a traditional cornerback role at Basha, but once he arrives at Ohio State in January he will transition to the nickel position.

He is the eighteenth commitment to the Buckeyes’ 2024 class.

Lockhart joins four-star Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville cornerback Bryce West in Walton’s haul. Four-star West Orange (N.J.) Seton Hall Prep safety Jaylen McClain rounds out the secondary for now.

Four-star linebacker duo Garrett Stover and Payton Pierce are in the class and five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott rounds out defensive class.

Lockhart will work against an extremely talented offensive class.

Five-star wide receiver duo Jeremiah Smith and Mylan Graham highlight the haul. Running back trio James Peoples, Jordan Lyle and Sam Williams-Dixon are in the mix.

And tight ends Max LeBlanc and Damarion Witten round out the skill positions.

Miles Lockhart took his time in his recruiting process, but he always knew where he wanted to be.

Lockhart is headed to Ohio State.
