COLUMBUS — In light of two decommitments from its 2023 class, the 2024 class received another boost: four-star Sunbury (Ohio) Big Walnut linebacker Garrett Stover commits to Ohio State.

Stover long had Ohio State as the favorite, but Notre Dame was a serious contender for his pledge.

Ultimately, it came down to relationships and Stover certainly has those at Ohio State. He’s the younger cousin of star tight end Cade Stover, but was navigating through the college decision choice his own way.

In the end, it ended up being Ohio State.

Stover has only missed two home games this season and told Lettermen Row he will be in attendance for Ohio State-Michigan this weekend.

He is the No. 12 rated linebacker in the 2024 cycle and the No. 115 overall prospect according to On3. The On3 Consensus Rankings have him as the No. 16 linebacker and the No. 147 overall prospect.

Stover is the third commit to the 2024 class joining five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola and four-star offensive lineman Ian Moore.

Lettermen Row watched one of his games from this fall and it’s easy to see why Stover had the attention of programs all over the country.

He’s a fast-moving, hard-hitting linebacker from Central Ohio and that’s the type of player the Buckeyes don’t want to lose.

The track to Ohio State all started after an impressive June camp performance where he impressed in front of safeties coach Perry Eliano, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and coach Ryan Day.

“It was unreal working with them,” Garrett Stover said. “They both coach with such high energy and don’t expect anything more than the best from you. That’s what I love the most. They showed me a lot of different things I can take home and work on and I learned a lot.

Stover can put to bed his recruitment process and has the comfort of staying home, all the while, Ohio State is getting an impressive player.

Garrett Stover is going to be a Buckeye.
