COLUMBUS – Ryan Turner is officially in the Ohio State class.

Turner, a three-star cornerback in the 2022 cycle, signed his Letter of Intent on Wednesday to join the Buckeyes.

What does this addition do for Ohio State? Let’s break it down.

Who is Ryan Turner?

Ryan Turner is a 6-foot, 180-pound cornerback who committed to Ohio State on May 5, 2021.

On3 Ranking: N/A overall, 43 CB, 55 FL
Hometown: Hollywood, Fla.
High School: Chaminade-Madonna Prep

Scouting summary: “The biggest thing that stands out about him is that he’s a guy that can cover. Man-press, man off, not too many high school kids can play off. His film stands out. He’s a kid that brings a lot of value. He can do multiple things and college coaches are looking for smart players. Ryan Turner is probably a top-two cornerback in the country in doing that stuff. Not many can. He’s very smooth, but he’s patient. He reminds me of Pat Surtain, and we played together. Ryan is that kind of guy. He jumps off the screen because he’s kid you don’t need to develop. He becomes a coach on the field.” – Arturo Freeman, former NFL defensive back and Turner’s trainer

How did he end up at Ohio State?

This was a battle all the way between Ohio State and Clemson while schools such as Boston College, Miami and Penn State made their cases as well. But Ryan Turner, as was the case with the other Buckeyes cornerback commitment in this cycle, grew a strong relationship with Kerry Coombs and believed that the best situation for his future development was with the Ohio State defensive coach.

He visited both Columbus and Clemson and also mixed in a stop at Boston College in the spring and had planned an official visit to Penn State for the summer. But in the end, the pull to the Buckeyes was too strong, and the relationships with Coombs, Matt Barnes and the rest of the Ohio State staff solidified his recruitment.
