People may forget that former Ole Miss and Oxford High School standout DK Metcalf was a force on the basketball court, but he reminded those people on Friday.

During the Ruffles Celebrity All-Star Game as part of the 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City, Metcalf put on a show to earn himself MVP honors. Metcalf was on Team Wade which was coached by former NBA great Dwayne Wade.

Team Wade defeated Team Ryan, coached by Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith, 81-78 and mostly due to Metcalf’s performance. The Seattle Seahawks wide receiver finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

WWE Superstar The Miz hit a half-court shot that would have given Team Ryan the win but it was waived off by the referees.

“I didn’t ever think I was going to win MVP, I just came here to hoop around,” Metcalf said. “It feels great. I thank y’all…It was just a great all-around experience to be on the court with some of these guys…a lot of legends that played in the NBA. It was just a blessing all around.”

Metcalf was a multi-sport athlete while at Oxford High School, excelling in football, basketball and track & field.

The former Rebel completed his fourth season in the NFL this past season. Metcalf finished with 90 catches for 1,048 yards and six touchdowns to finish as the 16th best receiver in the league for the 2022 season.

Prior to the 2022 season, Metcalf signed a three-year, $72 million extension with the Seahawks which included $58.2 million guaranteed. His $30 million signing bonus was a record and he is currently the highest paid player on the Seahawks roster.

In Metcalf’s senior season at Oxford he averaged 13.2 points per game, 7.2 rebounds per game and two blocks per game. He averaged 11.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.6 bpg over his entire basketball career at Oxford.
