After a flurry of commits over the weekend, Ole Miss added another portal commit Sunday evening. Mississippi State cornerback Decamerion Richardson announced his pledge to Lane Kiffin via Twitter after entering the portal last week.

The commitment comes after a run of the Rebels adding four-stars Florida EDGE Princely Umanmielen, Tennessee EDGE Tyler Baron, Oklahoma safety Key Lawrence, Tennessee safety Tamarion McDonald and South Carolina wide receiver Juice Wells.

Richardson recorded 164 tackles over the last two seasons as a starter for the Bulldogs. In 2022, Richardson finished 9th in the SEC with 50 solo tackles and 85 total to go along with three passes defended. The 6-foot-2, 195 pound prospect garnered a ton of attention this year from the Reese’s Senior Bowl staff.

Decamerion Richardson played his high school ball at Bossier (La.) where he was a three-star recruit.

He was also rated as the No. 813 overall player the No. 74 cornerback in his cycle. Richardson was named All-District 1-3A first team at both running back and cornerback as a senior. He also lettered in track and field, finishing second in the 100 meters at Louisiana 3A-4A-5A state track meet (10.75) and third in the 200 meters (21.63).

Ole Miss is set to lose starting cornerbacks Deantre Prince and Zamari Walton after the Peach Bowl.

The Rebels will look to bring back DaiJahn Anthony, DeShawn Gaddie and John Saunders. Whether or not they return, Richardson will bring a lot of experience with him to Oxford. In 2023, he had 79 tackles, seven pass breakups, one sack and one tackle for loss.

Richardson was the No. 4 graded cornerback in the SEC for the 2023 season according to Pro Football Focus. He graded out with an 86.5 coverage grade, 73.6 run defense grade and 74.8 pass rush grade. USA Today’s Alex Katson scouted the SEC corner earlier this year.

“Richardson is a lengthy corner with the speed and athleticism to turn and stick with receivers down the field,” Katson said. “In 2022, Richardson started opposite Forbes. He made 85 tackles on the year with three pass deflections and a tackle for loss and he returned a blocked kick from Forbes for a touchdown against Texas A&M.”
