On Tuesday Dan Lanning met with media to talk about the development of his team this Spring. In addition he talked about the growth of some of his coaches, his new hire and more.

The transfer portal also opened this week and Lanning talked about how Oregon might operate in the portal.

You can read his top comments below or watch the video at the bottom.

Opening Statement:

“Some really good back and forth today. Some team competition period. Some third down. A 4-minute get the ball back situation at the end of practice. I just thought our guys really handled it well. Continued to push and drive ourselves to improve.”

On Review of Scrimmage 1:

“There was some good back and forth. Offense started hot but defense probably won the day. Still a lot of things certainly for us to improve. Playing with effort after the ball is in hand. Tackling can improve.”

On A’lique Terry:

“A’lique is doing exactly what I expected A’lique to do. I know he’s a rising star in the profession. He’s got great relationships with our players. A’lique is pushing himself to get better with the other guys in that room. O-line is tough. It takes a really detailed teacher and a coach that is passionate about his players.”

On Ra’Shaad Samples so far:

“He got thrown right in the middle of the fire. He’s gotta go build relationships with those guys in that room. We have a great running back group with some great leadership.”

On the Transfer Portal:

“Right now I feel really good about our team. But at the same time if there is something that can enhance our team with the right character fit with the right pieces than that’s something we have to keep our eyes open to.”

On Keeping Current Players:

“Retention is really big. It’s about retaining the right guys. The guys that are out there trying to get better. Give our team an opportunity to win.”
