On Saturday Oregon hosted its first scrimmage of the Spring. It was closed to the media but Lanning and several players and coaches met with the media after it was over.

It was some wet conditions in Eugene on Saturday as you’ll see in the video.

You can read most of his interview below or watch the video at the bottom.

Opening Comments:

“Some positives from the first scrimmage. There’s always going to be some highs and lows. The offense was able to move the ball. The defense buckled down in the second half. Saw some positives from our quarterbacks. Some of our young guys stuck out, Luke Moga, Austin Novosad did a really good job. Overall good operation, plenty of stuff for us to attack and clean up.”

On what he’s looking for:

Improvement. I gotta watch the film to see where we’re at. There was some good energy. But really just improvement.

On the Weather:

“It certainly made things harder. We did a good job protecting the ball. But it certainly made things harder later in the scrimmage being able to throw the ball effectively. That’s where your run game has to show up. That’s why you want to be a balanced team.”

On Center Play (Laloulu):

“I think he’s been effective. It’s something he wants to continue to attack and improve on. Today we were pretty good from our snaps.”

On Dillon & Dante:

“The speed of play shows up even more and more on scrimmage days. I thought both those guys handled it well. Both those guys were able to move around a little bit and use their feet. Overall we made pretty good decisions. There were some times we put the ball in jeopardy. In general I thought all of our quarterbacks were able to execute.”

On Defensive Play:

“I’d say in the first half they got their butts whooped sometimes. We had some sustained drives and scored some points. In that second half the weather was probably a factor in that. Overall there were some guys that stuck out and had some success.”
