Oregon resumed Spring practices on Tuesday after the Spring break. Following that practice, the first in full pads, Dan Lanning spoke to the media about that practice and some things that stood out.

Additionally Lanning commented on the recent departure of Carlos Locklyn to Ohio State.

Opening Comment:

“Great to be playing football again. It was a great day getting back from Spring break. We really taxed the guys today. We wanted to see what they were able to do over their time off. I thought our guys really pushed through, but we pushed them. Saw some physicality today, we finally got to wear pads. We can watch the film and go from there.”

On Carlos Locklyn’s Departure:

“It’s football. Carlos did an unbelievable job for us. My goal is when we bring people here we get to advance them to opportunities that make sense for them. I know how great Oregon is. And I know this, the reality isn’t really winning the press conference. He did a great job for us here but when we hired him he was a relative unknown. This is a great chance for us to get better. That’s the goal. We’re going to bring someone in that can do a great job with our organization. We got a lot of young coaches right now in our organization that do a great job. We always have a plan. It’s about getting it right.”

On Handling RB Duties:

“We’ll have a couple of coaches handling that. Jack’s (Smith) handling that, Koa (Ka’ai), we’ve got a couple of guys.”

On Timing & Hire Timeline:

“The timing is interesting. We’re a well-oiled machine right now. We don’t have to have someone tomorrow. I want people that want to be here at Oregon.”

On Terrance Ferguson:

“I’ll tell you this, Terrance Ferguson has busted his absolute tail to get better. He’s a leader on the field. It’s been really impressive.”

On Evan Stewart & Jabbar Muhammad:

“Great talent from both of those guys. They play fast. They play with a lot of confidence. Excited to see what they do on the field for us moving forward.”

On Dillon Gabriel:

“More than anything the way that we prepare has given Dillon a chance to get ahead of the curve. His experience is really paying off.”
