Oregon Ducks Prepare for MAJOR Recruiting Weekend with Several 5-Stars on Campus | Inside Scoop

The following story was written by ScoopDuck intern Linden Hile.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning’s post spring game media availability featured insight on quarterback play, injury updates, and draft news on former Ducks. This year’s spring game included many new faces as well as returning players who set the tone for Oregon’s culture heading into the 2024 season.

Below are some notable quotes from Lanning’s Spring Game press conference, with full video attached.

On quarterback play from Dillon Gabriel and Dante Moore:

“I think all of our quarterbacks had some really positive plays but I have to go back again and watch the film to get a really clear look. We saw some good things from Luke (Moga) and Austin (Novosad) as well, even Brock (Thomas) when he was in there. So I feel really good about our quarterbacks though, I really like the group that we have.”

On the impact of freshmen Dakoda Fields and Aaron Flowers:

“It’s really hard to be able to come in and compete, especially as a freshman in this defense in what we ask them to do. Days like today are awesome to see those guys go out there and play fast, obviously Dakoda had a big play, Aaron had some great tackles. We’ve signed good football players so it’s our job to continue to develop them.”

On what he saw from the wide receivers:

“We have some talented guys in that room, which is great. We’ve got to continue to eliminate some of the MAs (missed assignments) that are gonna occur when you’re learning stuff. I see burst, I see explosion. I see guys that attack the ball when it’s in the air. It’s a deep group with a lot of guys who can help us.”

On Ducks drafted this weekend and how that affects this year’s team:

“Eight guys right? Not bad. That’s exciting, now it’s about getting more of those guys in the first and second. You’re so thrilled for people that worked their tails off and for that to turn into future success for them. That’s something we’re really excited about and I know that’s something that’s gonna carry over well.”

On injuries:

“I don’t have any updates right now but I’ll get with Chief here in a little bit, I think we have some dings here and there, but overall I think our team’s gonna be in good shape. Football’s football and the only way to get better at it is to play football.”
