Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens is set to receive a five-year contract extension, pending approval from the University’s board of trustees.

According to University documents that were released ahead of Tuesday’s BoT meeting, Mullens, who just completed his 12th year as the University’s AD will receive a salary increase and see his current contract extended through June 30, 2030.

Mullens’ base annual salary will increase from $830,058 to $980,000. According to a market study conducted by the university, that will make him the 11th-highest paid athletic director in the nation and the third-highest paid AD in the Pac-12.

Mullens’ current contract included retention bonuses of $300,000 for the next two years, and $1 million for 2025. Under his new contract, he will be eligible for retention bonuses of $300,000 in 2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029, and he will be eligible for a $1 million retention bonus in 2030.

Among the litany of performance incentives included in his proposed contract, Mullens could receive additional compensation ranging from $10,000 – $25,000 for Oregon’s placement in the Director’s Cup standings.

If the University were to terminate Mullens’ employment without cause after June 1, 2023, it would owe him the entirety of his remaining base salary plus 80 percent of the total cumulative retention incentives included in his contract. If he was to be terminated before that date, he would receive no portion of his retention incentives.

The University of Oregon board of trustees is set to meet Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 8 a.m. PT.
