The Oregon Ducks delivered a historic offensive performance during their Week 1 win over Portland State. As a result, Dan Lanning’s squad climbed a few spots in the updated AP Poll and USA Today Coaches Poll after a chaotic first week of the college football season.

Oregon jumped two spots to No. 13 with 823 points in the AP Poll and is the fourth-highest-ranked Pac-12 team. USC (No. 6, 1,255), Washington (No. 8, 1,107), Utah (No. 12, 919), Oregon State (558), and Colorado (No. 22, 269) all cracked the top-25 as well.

UCLA and Washington State also received votes.

Oregon also climbed two spots in the Coaches Poll and received 904 points. The Ducks are the fourth-highest-ranked Pac-12 program in that poll, too.

USC (No. 6, 1,283), Washington (No. 8, 1,115), Utah (No. 12, 924), Oregon State (No. 18, 499), and Colorado (No. 25, 161) landed inside the top-25 as well.

Dan Lanning shares thoughts on Oregon’s Week 1 performance

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning met with reporters Monday evening and was asked for his thoughts on his team’s performance against Portland State in Saturday’s season opener.

“I loved the competitiveness and the focus of our guys. We talked about, “What does a successful game look like?” Not a lot of pre-snap and post-snap penalties. We did that. We had a careless penalty on a hold and we added a careless penalty on PBR. Those are two things that we’ve got to fix. But walking out the game clean from that standpoint, you love. I love the energy from our players on the sideline. There are a lot of things that we can fix; being better on movements.

“From a defensive standpoint, I thought we tackled well in this game. But there were some missed tackles as well that we can do a better job of wrapping up. I think getting the ball to our outside arm on offense so we can work to get stiff arm opportunities to move the ball down the field. Something we want to focus on is chasing the ball better with our offensive line. Our skill players, when they don’t have the ball in their hands, is something we want to improve. We want to be able to connect on some of those shots that you know we missed. We still moved the ball well, but you avoid some of those third and longs that we hit and had success on when you’re able to move the ball on those shots earlier in the series.”
