Report Card: Oregon Quarterback Recruiting

While Oregon still has a few big fish left as the Summer comes to an end. However none of them are on offense so it’s safe to start writing up some report cards on the recruiting class by position to date.

We know Oregon will continue to hunt several more later in the Fall in the ‘second cycle’ but for now a lot of positions appear to be finished. Quarterback being one of them.

And it had its twists and turns no doubt. Which really started at the beginning of the year when Jaron Keawe-Sagapolutele showed up to Oregon for a cup of coffee then bounced after realizing he wasn’t going to be handed the starting job. While he was class of 2025, it certainly had a late impact on to Oregon’s 2026 recruiting of the position.

We all know Oregon ended up with four-star quarterback Bryson Beaver, pulling him from Boise State. And after Dan Lanning paid Rivals, he received a hefty rankings bump. I kid, obviously.

However the fact remains, Beaver showed well at the Elite-11 and was one of the biggest risers this Summer regardless of position. He is now the No. 5 ranked quarterback with Rivals. His industry ranking has him at No. 12 in the position group but there’s quite a bit of scuttle 247Sports will be bumping him up from his current No. 17 positional ranking.

Conversely, Oregon’s original quarterback commit, Jonas Williams has seen his stock go the opposite direction this Summer.

The Ducks had a honeymoon with five-star Jared Curtis for most of the Spring before he picked Georgia for a second time.

Of course four-star Ryder Lyons went with BYU in the end. But with him being a mission guy, even if only for a year, it was hard to really consider him a 2026 anyways. Good player, but he would have been a 2027 at the very least and really impacted what Oregon does there.

I like what Oregon has in its room now. So the only way two quarterbacks made any sense in this cycle is if one of them was Lyons.

After all the drama, ups and downs, twists and turns, Oregon ending up with Beaver feels like a near best-case scenario. Of course Jared Curtis would have been nice but it just wasn’t meant to be. And I’m happy to see Oregon take those shots even if they end up missing.

QB Recruiting Grade: B+

I like this outcome for Oregon. Despite missing on a couple big targets, they get a sure-thing that will be ready to come in after the season and get to work. I know Oregon also kicked the tires with Matt Ponatoski, but I wondered how baseball would impact his college football career or if he’d even have one.

Beaver has a ton of upside and a very live arm, two things that are ideal for any college quarterback.

Will Stein should head into next season with a very well-stocked room.
