Penn State football recruiting had a jam-packed Sunday to kick off the official visit season. The team secured three more recruits for the Class of 2024 and hosted its first prospect camp of the summer in the same day. We’ll cover all of that today on the BWI Live Recruiting Show.

Host Thomas Frank Carr and recruiting insider Ryan Snyder discuss the impact of Penn State’s latest surge of commitments and review who stood out to them during Penn State’s first prospect camp of the summer. It was an important day for Central Catholic wide receiver Peter Gonzalez, who has an official visit set for later this month. Did he ace his final audition?

Stay tuned later this week for a conversation with quarterbacks coach Brad Maendler. Maendler is the private coach for Penn State commit Ethan Grunkmeyer and current Lions QB Drew Allar.

Penn State locks up key defensive targets and a rising tackle commit

The biggest news of Sunday was the massive recruiting run that the Nittany Lions secured on Sunday after its first official visit weekend of the season. Offensive lineman Deryc Plazz was the first to announce his commitment Sunday, followed by defensive tackle Xavier Gilliam and, finally, top safety prospect Dejuan Lane.

Snyder will recap Plazz’s story, which includes a quick ascent up the Penn State tackle board. With so many players in the Class, T-Frank will discuss where Plazz fits in the group.

Next, they’ll switch to Lane and discuss what is known in the recruitment of four-star safety. They’ll also answer the question of Lane’s ranking. Is he underrated?

Finally, they’ll turn to Gilliam and spend time discussing where he fits on Penn State’s defensive tackle board, what he brings to the table and more.

Peter Gonzalez stands out at Prospect camp

Consensus three-star receiver Peter Gonzalez was the main story of Sunday’s prospect camp. The Pittsburgh native has an offer from Penn State and an official visit for later this summer, but the program wanted him to camp first to get a final testing measurement on him. Snyder and T-Frank will share what they saw and the data they gathered on Gonzalez throughout the afternoon. Did he earn himself a spot in the Penn State Class of 2024?

They’ll also discuss the other committed players at camp, including offensive lineman Caleb Brewer and linebacker Anthony Speca. From there, they’ll discuss the other players that stood out on Sunday.
