6:40 p.m. ET update: Hussey’s decision is in.

6 p.m. ET update: Hussey said on Instagram that he would get started in “10-15 minutes.” So, an announcement is now set for 6:10 to 6:10 p.m.

Original story:

Penn State signed 22 of its previous 23 Class of 2023 verbal commitments on Wednesday. Now, the final longtime member of the group is set to make his final decision.

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas four-star defensive back Conrad Hussey picked the Lions last April. However, he officially visited Miami and Florida State in December. Now, after not making a choice during the first day of the early signing period, he is set to pick between the Lions, Seminoles, and Hurricanes at 6 p.m. ET Thursday night on his Instagram page. You can see that here.

Hussey stands 6-foot, 185 pounds. The Class of 2023 prospect is the No. 249 player overall and No. 18 safety. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine favors FSU entering the announcement as of 4 p.m. ET Thursday. But, considering the many twists and turns in this recruitment, any outcome is possible.

Penn State already signed five other defensive backs in this cycle. One is Hussey’s teammate, four-star King Mack. The others are Alabama native DaKaari Nelson, New York native Zion Tracy, Florida native Elliot Washington and Pennsylvania native Lamont Payne. It’s a good haul that would be even better by keeping Hussey committed and earning his signature. Time will tell if the Lions can.

Next Class of 2023 steps for Penn State will be determined by Hussey’s decision

During his signing day press conference Wednesday, head coach James Franklin made it clear that he and he and his staff were waiting to see what Hussey decided before determining what positions they’ll target next.

“We got one guy that we’ve been recruiting for a long time that still hasn’t signed yet. We’ll see how that all plays out,” Franklin said.

He later added, “On the defensive side of the ball, we’d like to get a defensive tackle, possibly another defensive end just from a numbers perspective. Again, depending on how this thing plays out in the back end at defensive back, we could be in the need for one or two more defensive backs.

“We’ll see how this whole thing plays out. But those would be probably needs that I would say that are still out there that we’d like to try to address either through the second signing day with high school prospects or some transfer portal prospects.”
