Barnegat (N.J.) Donovan Catholic wide receiver Michael Thomas III narrowed his focus to five schools on Friday, with Penn State making the cut. The four-star prospect also included Boston College, Illinois, Rutgers and Syracuse on his mostly-regional list. Thomas is in the process of setting up spring visits.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound prospect is the No. 19 wide receiver nationally and the No. 3 prospect in New Jersey in the Class of 2025 according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s the No. 137 overall prospect nationally after the latest set of rankings, holding a four-star rating from three of four national recruiting services.

Thomas was most recently on campus at Penn State for the season-opener against West Virginia back in September. He picked up an offer from the Nittany Lions in June of 2022 after working out for the staff at camp. Thomas returned for a game that fall and also visited last spring while in town for the Elite 11 camp.

His longest relationship at Penn State is through assistant recruiting coordinator Khalil Ahmad. Ahmad offered Thomas during his first stint at Syracuse, then went to Penn State. He then went back to Syracuse before resurfacing in Happy Valley last month.

“Coach Ahmad is a cool dude,” said Thomas. “We built a relationship a while ago before he joined PSU. He keeps it 100 all the time. He just checks in on me, makes sure I’m good and gives me some good points and advice about my upcoming season.”

Thomas has yet to set official visits for the summer.
