Penn State picked up commitment No. 23 for this year’s recruiting class Monday in running back Cameron Wallace. A native of Mount Vernon, Ga., Wallace had a rapid rise this fall, going from no offers to over a dozen in just a few months.

After picking up his first Football Bowl Subdivision offer from Washington State at the end of September, Wallace went on to earn over a dozen offers total. In addition to James Franklin and his staff at Penn State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Michigan State and West Virginia were among the more notable programs.

Wallace’s first introduction to State College came last month when he took an official visit to Penn State the weekend of the Maryland game. The Nittany Lions emerged as the team to beat at that point, although he did give a look to Georgia Tech, taking an official visit with new head coach Brent Key and his staff this past weekend.

“It was a really good visit,” Wallace said, referring to his Penn State official visit. . They have great personalities. I never saw any negativity in anything they were saying. Everything they said was just the truth. They’re a very honest staff. It was really cool seeing everything there.”

This past season, Wallace rushed for 1,221 yards, averaging 9.6 yards per carry and scoring 13 touchdowns. He earned a host of awards, including All-Region Player of the Year. He also grabbed the attention of everyone back in the spring, running the 100-meter in 10.56 seconds.

According to On3, Wallace holds an 88 overall rating, which makes him a high three-star prospect. He’s currently the 67th-ranked player in Georgia and the 44th-ranked running back nationally.

Penn State’s Class of 2023 currently ranks 13th nationally heading into the early signing period. The class is made up of 15 four-star players and eight three-star players. It’s the second-ranked class in the Big Ten currently.
