When 22 members of Penn State’s Class of 2022 signed back in December, the fanfare for in-state four-star linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson was a bit muffled. After all, the Pittsburgh (Pa.) Brashear standout missed his senior season rehabbing from a knee injury suffered in early October of 2021.

Now on the verge of returning from being out of sight and out of mind, the Penn State staff is excited for his January arrival.

“We’ve got a lot of dudes in this class. One that I’m really excited to see is Ta’Mere Robinson,” Recruiting Coordinator for Personnel & Recruitment Kenny Sanders said on National Signing Day. “That’s probably the easy answer. He’s so big, he’s so athletic. He’s coming off an injury so he’s hungry. To watch what that kid had to do to even get back to this point, I think the sky’s the limit for him.

“He’s just one of those people you look at… I remember being a scout in the NFL and looking at Brandon Jacobs and saying, “Wait, that’s a running back?” That’s what you feel when you look at him. There’s no way that’s a linebacker, you’d say. He’s definitely a dude that I think is going to have an opportunity to be really special for us in a room that is already pretty special.”

Robinson set to occupy the middle for Penn State

James Franklin said last month that the Nittany Lions are projecting the 6-foot-3, 220-pound Robinson as a middle linebacker at the next level. Robinson’s future head coach described him as “a big, big young man, but [with] athleticism and movement and leadership qualities.” Robinson played all over the field for Brashear during his shortened high school career but he’ll adjust to being a full-time linebacker at the next level.

“They think my size and speed should work well there,” Robinson told BWI in December. “I can move side-to-side, but also be physical and cover that middle of the field.”

Penn State’s incoming linebacker class is one of the better groups that the Nittany Lions have acquired in recent memory. Robinson will be flanked by projected outside linebackers Tony Rojas and Kaveion Keys. All carried a four-star rating from On3 and finished in the Top300 of the On3 Consensus rankings.

“All three have really good tape, all three of them are really good students. I know they’re excited about the opportunity of coming here and coming in competing within what’s going to be one of the better linebacker rooms in the country,” Franklin said. “Especially with the way we’ve been able to get Abdul [Carter] and develop him in his first year on campus. So it’s gonna be a really fun position to watch over the next year.”
