Penn State offensive lineman Cooper Cousins may be just two games into his senior season, but the Erie native has already grabbed the attention of On3’s scouts.

On Wednesday, On3’s Director of Scouting, Charles Power, provided an update on a few prospects that have caught his eye through the first couple of weeks of the 2023 high school season.

Cousins, who already holds a four-star rating, was one of five players that Power spotlighted.

“There are several blue-chip interior offensive linemen who are playing center as seniors – something we don’t always see. Of that group, Penn State commit Cooper Cousins has looked the most impressive thus far. For one, Cousins has rare size for the position at over 6-foot-6, 305 pounds. Despite being that tall, he’s shown outstanding balance and leverage. Cousins plays with a great base and gets low, driving through his hips to uproot defensive linemen.

“He’s also shown plus movement skills, getting to the second level as a puller. The Erie (Pa.) McDowell product is a bully in the run game and has heavy hands on contact. His size and anchor also project very well as a pass protector on the interior. Cousins currently ranks as the No. 214 overall prospect and No. 11 interior offensive lineman in the On300.”

Cousins’ highlights in his most recent game against Barberton were among of his most impressive yet. McDowell is currently 2-0 to start the 2023 season. They lost to Walsh Jesuit, 49-28, in the season opener before beating Barberton, 52-20.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Cousins is ranked No. 189 nationally. He’s the 10th-ranked interior offensive lineman and No. 2 overall in Pennsylvania for the class. Cousins is a consensus four-star prospect by all four major recruiting sites.

Cousins has also been one of the key leaders in Penn State’s Class of 2024. Committing all the way back in January 2022, Cousins has remained firm to the Nittany Lions ever since, visiting eight different times this year alone. He’s also played a major role in helping recruiting other key members of the class, including offensive linemen Garrett Sexton, Eagan Boyer and Donovan Harbour.

Currently, Penn State head coach James Franklin and his staff have earned 24 commitments to this point in Class of 2024. It ranks No. 10 overall nationally with 15 four-star prospects according to the Industry Ranking.
