Junior college safety Tyrece Mills officially joins Penn State roster
Penn State added another member of its Class of 2022 Friday with the addition of Lackawanna safety Tyrece Mills.
Listed at 6-foot, 200 pounds, Mills committed to Penn State back in May 2021, continuing the pipeline that’s formed at Lackawanna. That’s especially true at the safety position, as both Jaquan Brisker, now with the Chicago Bears, and senior Ji’Ayir Brown came from the Scranton-based junior college.
Mills was ranked as the seventh-best junior college prospect according to our scouts at On3, earning a four-star rating. He was actually one of two Lackawanna players to join the class along with offensive lineman JB Nelson.
Currently, 17 of Penn State’s 25-member class have made it to campus. That number will grow to at least 23 on Sunday, with six more players expected to move in. The list includes DE Dani Dennis-Sutton, DT Kaleb Artis, LB Keon Wylie and safety prospects Mehki Flowers and KJ Winston. Blue White Illustrated reported those players earlier this week. We also confirmed Saturday that WR Anthony Ivey will enroll tomorrow.

That leaves defensive end Ken Talley and offensive lineman Vega Ioane as the two remaining freshmen yet to enroll. Talley hasn’t confirmed a move-i date yet, but we’ve been told Ioane likely won’t enroll until June 26.
As for what fans can expect from Mills, Lackawanna head coach Mark Duda compared him to Brisker in a previous talk last year. Penn State expects him to be the next in that line of successful incoming safeties.
“He’s an extremely aggressive kid. He’s like Brisker in that regard,” said Lackawanna College head coach Mark Duda. “We always say that we should have a siren on his helmet to warn his teammates, because when he comes up there, he hits the opponent and his own guys, too. He’s just that kind of kid. He wants to blow things up. He also has that ability to find a guy and make a great tackle.”
