Penn State had another player climb to five-star status in the On3 Consensus rankings Tuesday.

Last week, running back Nick Singleton earned his bump into elite status. The nation’s top running back is now among that group with his future quarterback, Drew Allar, who moved up to No. 23 in the Consensus ranking. In fact, Allar is now ahead of Singleton overall, making him the top player in Penn State’s Class of 2022. Allar ranks No. 23 overall, while Singleton is No. 29.

“We’ve seen Allar continue to level up with his skill and feel for the game,” On3 Scouting Director Charles Power wrote earlier this season. “This is much more than just a big-armed passer who slings the ball around. Allar makes some difficult, small window passes with regularity. The field vision and spatial awareness, combined with this arm dexterity and ability to deliver from multiple platforms is unique.

“Additionally, Allar isn’t sitting back in the pocket untouched. He often plays from an empty set and is forced to make second reaction plays and quick decisions when blitzed. He’s playing with supreme confidence and the game is moving slow.”

Allar’s jump comes after Rivals updated its rankings this week, moving the Penn State commit up to No. 70 overall. He was previously No. 195. Allar is now the seventh-ranked quarterback according to Rivals.

Although that’s still substantially lower than where On3 (No. 11 nationally, first at QB) and 247 (No. 3 nationally, first at QB) rank Allar, it’s still a big enough jump to put the future Penn State quarterback into five-star status in the On3 Consensus Rankings.

For those still learning the On3 Consensus, it’s an equally weighted ranking that considers all four major recruiting services – On3, 247, Rivals & ESPN. It’s different from the 247 Composite, which is tilted towards 247’s rankings. This is the one true ranking that considers all four sites the same.

Although Penn State now holds two five-star commitments in its Class of 2022, it wasn’t enough for the Nittany Lions to surpass Notre Dame in the team rankings. Penn State still sits at No. 6 overall, which is second in the Big Ten, behind Ohio State. The Buckeyes are No. 4 overall, behind Texas A&M, Alabama and Georgia, respectively.

Behind Penn State sits North Carolina at No. 7, followed by Texas, Clemson and Oregon.
