Penn State football news, notes, and updates for May 12 include a look back at Wednesday night’s commitment, multiple offers going out, and more. It was a busy day for the Nittany Lions that ended with the program picking up its 12th verbal commitment in the Class of 2023.

There are plenty of other tweets and headlines to cover too, of course. Let’s dive into the top ones about Penn State and college athletics on Thursday.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the latest high school player to pick Penn State.

Atco, N.J., On3 Consensus four-star and senior-to-be Ejani Shakir is the first receiver to pick the Lions in the current cycle. The 6-foot, 175-pound prospect is known for his speed. He plays under former Lions Bill Belton and Christian Hackenberg at  Winslow Township High School.

“They’ve really seen me evolve and have stuck with me,” Shakir told BWI. “Plus, I just think they’re the staff that’ll make me the best player I can be. I can be great there. They can take me to the league, but if it’s not about that, they’ll help me get a great job because of the education there. Everything is great around them.”

In other news, Penn State sent out two new offers on Wednesday. The Lions are now in the mix for Class of 2024 IMG Academy safety Jaydan Hardy and also 2024 corner Charles Lester of Sarasota, Fla., Riverview High.

PSU running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, who of course leads the Lions’ recruiting efforts in the Sunshine State, is there this week as the spring evaluation period continues.

Quote of the day

““It was mainly Penn State for me. I would say the closest contenders were West Virginia and Boston College. Those were probably my top three, but mainly Penn State and West Virginia. I could see myself at both of those schools, but Penn State felt more like home for me. I just felt that they gave me the best opportunity.”
