Georgia DL transfer Jonathan Jefferson commits to SMU
SMU landed former Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Jonathan Jefferson, who committed to the Mustangs after his official visit this weekend, he announced on Monday.
Jefferson was with the Bulldogs for three seasons. During that time, the big defensive tackle has been a part of two national championships and a 29-game winning streak. He has six career tackles, but SMU wants him to take on a bigger role in its defense.
He saw action in 13 career contests with the majority of those coming in 2023. In 2023, Jefferson logged snaps in seven games, recording one tackle against Kentucky. He was in the rotation though for the Bulldogs, who once again won the SEC East.

Jefferson played high school football at Douglas County (Ga.), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 136 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
He chose the Bulldogs over the likes of Florida, Auburn and Alabama in March prior to his season season. As a junior at Douglas County, Jefferson totaled 77 tackles including 15 sacks and 13 tackles for loss with five quarterback hurries, four pass breakups, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and an interception. He scored two touchdowns on the year.
SMU’s making a big push to stack defensive line talent back up in Calvin Thibodeaux’ room and Jefferson is now a part of the future of that room with two years of eligibility remaining.
