Club takeaway comes up clutch

Linebacker Justin Medlock read the eyes of Gulbranson, intercepted the football and returned it 96 yards for the touchdown. The SMU defense has struggled at times today, but has never completely collapsed. Mustang fans can now breathe as SMU leads 31-10 with 6:05 remaining in the fourth quarter.

End of third quarter: SMU 24 – Stanford 10

It’s the Chris Johnson show today at Ford Stadium. After he finished the first half with an 87-yard rushing touchdown, he began the second with an incredible 42-yard receiving touchdown. Stanford responded with a field goal on the ensuing drive. SMU leads by two touchdowns with 15 minutes to play. Kevin Jennings has completed 18 of his 25 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Another strong day at the office for No. 7.

Halftime: SMU 17 – Stanford 7

SMU running back Chris Johnson Jr. hit the hole and took off for an 87-yard touchdown with 30 seconds remaining in the first half. Johnson’s touchdown gave SMU a 17-0 lead. Stanford was able to drive right down the field and score a touchdown themselves. A poor defensive drive for SMU allowed the Cardinal to cut into the Mustang lead. The score at halftime: SMU 17, Stanford 7. The Cardinal will receive the kickoff to start the second half.

Mustangs add a field goal

SMU’s first drive to start the second quarter stalled out inside the red zone, forcing head coach Rhett Lashlee to settle for three points. Sam Keltner knocked through the 32-yard field goal to extend SMU’s lead to 10. Keltner should feel a little more confident now, seeing one go through the uprights, after a shaky start to his SMU career.

End of first quarter: SMU 7 – Stanford 0

10/11/2025 11:54:02 AM

SMU started slow but improved as the opening quarter progressed. The defense continues to get pressure on the Stanford QB, while the offense is picking up steam. The Mustangs lead 7-0, and have the ball in Cardinal territory to start the second quarter.

After a couple of slow drives by the offense, the Mustangs get on the board via a 19-yard receiving touchdown by Derrick McFall on 4th and 3. SMU QB Kevin Jennings made a couple of nice throws on that drive, including the touchdown. Jennings lofted the ball over the Stanford linebacker to find mcFall for the touchdown. SMU leads Stanford, 7-0, with 2:31 remaining in the first quarter.

SMU defense dominating early

The SMU offense started slowly, with back-to-back three-and-outs. However, the Mustang pass rush is dominating Stanford’s offense, sacking QB Ben Gulbranson three times in a single drive. SMU aims to spark its offense and maintain defensive pressure on Gulbranson. The score remains 0-0 with 7:55 left in the first quarter.
