SMU made its first public offer of the NCAA Transfer Portal window as Purdue outside linebacker Khordae Sydnor reported an offer from the Mustangs. The 6-5, 265-pound prospect has two years of eligibility remaining.

This season in 10 games, he made five tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries, two sacks and blocked a kick.

In 2022, Sydnor was an honorable mention Freshman All-American for the College Football News. He totaled 22 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks in all 14 games. In 2021, he redshirted.

SMU is in need of defensive linemen to step in and play right away as the Mustangs graduate Elijah Chatman, DeVere Levelston and Jordan Miller. Cincinnati, Memphis, NC State and others have already offered Sydnor as well.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Sydnor was the No. 137 overall EDGE in the nation and No. 6 prospect in New York in the 2021 class.

The portal has been around since Oct. 15, 2018 and the new calendar cycle within the portal begins each August. For example, the 2021-22 cycle started Aug. 1. During the 2020-21 cycle, 2,626 FBS football players entered the transfer portal (including walk-ons). That comes after 1,681 entered during the 2019-20 cycle and 1,709 during the abbreviated 2018-19 cycle.

In comparison, 1,833 Division I basketball players entered the portal during the 2020-21 cycle after totals of 1,020 in 2019-20 and 1,063 in 2018-19.
