Tennessee basketball is one of the top four programs for Ahmad Nowell, a four-star shooting guard in the 2024 class and a longtime priority for the Vols. UConn, Kentucky and Georgia Tech joined Tennessee on the list.

Nowell, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect at Imhotep Institute in Philadelphia, is a native of Germantown, Tenn. He’s ranked No. 40 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking and is the No. 10 shooting guard nationally. He’s ranked No. 2 in the state of Pennsylvania.

Tennessee hosted Nowell on an official visit in March, after offering him last year.

Vols were first official offer for four-star SG Ahmad Nowell

“There’s a lot of things I like about Tennessee,” Nowell told On3. “How hard they play, how together they are. When I visited there, they were really welcoming. I love the energy they brought. It made me feel I was apart of them before I was apart of them.

“(Tennessee) was my first official offer and they were the first to contact me when I was able to receive schools. That really stuck out to me.”

Nowell has taken official visits to each of his top four schools, including recent trips to UConn and Georgia Tech. He’s currently averaging 13.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists on the EYBL circuit.

“I’d say I’m an all-around player,” Nowell said in the On3 interview. “I can rebound, pass, score it; I’m an overall leader, whatever the team needs me to do in order to win. I watch a lot of different guys, the handle like Kyrie (Irving), the shooting like Damian Lillard, and the dog like Jimmy Butler. I’m a natural winner.”

Tennessee targeting two four-star shooting guards in 2024 class

Tennessee will likely to only have a couple scholarship spots to fill in the 2024 class. Four-star shooting guard Austin Swartz, who was in Knoxville for an official visit with the Vols over the weekend, is another priority target for the Vols.

“The play style of the team will play a big factor for me,” Nowell told On3 of his college decision. “I want to go to a school that runs a lot of ball screens and a lot of good actions. Play for a coach that gives his guards the freedom to make plays within structure.

“I’ll look at the coaching style of the coach and the brotherhood, the bond the team has as well. Player development will be big because I definitely want to get better throughout my college career. The history of guys at my position, if they get their players to the NBA. That is my ultimate goal for me, be an NBA point guard one day.”
