Wells shared:
Ryan Wingo sustained a minor hamstring injury and will be out for the remainder of the spring, sources tell Inside Texas. The decision is 100% precautionary and Wingo should be full go for the summer and fall camp barring any setbacks.
After a freshman season in which he frequently flashed immense talent, the St. Louis native was preparing for a breakout 2025 but now his spring is cut short. That’s unfortunate, as he’s not a finished product and could use as many reps as possible with first-year starting quarterback Arch Manning. That written, there are still some silver linings to discuss.
Non-serious Injury
Hamstrings can be finicky and are much more difficult to rehab during the season when need often necessitates a return to the field before a player is entirely 100% healthy. Hamstrings, like sprains, require rest and time and are much easier to treat during the offseason.
Wingo will be back soon and ready for a big summer of team 7 on 7 followed by August camp.
Plenty of Reps to go Around
Second-year receiver Parker Livingstone was the talk of the first week of practice. As an outside receiver with good size and great speed, he can easily play either outside receiver position. It’s likely he’ll slide over the Wingo’s spot which will allow Aaron Butler to move to the first-team. Butler is also promising.
In addition to the second-year players, Texas has a trio of very talented freshmen who will benefit from increased snaps. All three of Jaime Ffrench, Daylan McCutcheon, and Kaliq Lockett will take advantage of their newfound opportunity.
McCutcheon already had a busy first week filling in for DeAndre Moore who is out for spring ball. McCutcheon can play any position but slot seems to be his home. Highly rated freshman athlete, Michael Terry, has also been playing in the slot.

Lockett, who possesses tremendous ball skills and good route running, is tailor-made for boundary receiver. Ffrench has the ability to play any of the positions and has already played inside and outside this spring.
A Needed Reminder
Health is wealth and depth is an incredibly important investment. Just last August, Texas was stricken by the injury bug at running back. While Moore’s and Wingo’s issues are minor, they serve an important reminder that Texas’ receiver room, though very talented, is extremely wet behind the ears.

The Texas coaches already had resolve to add another receiver to the mix through the portal. Wingo’s minor injury will only strengthen that.
By the time Texas heads to Columbus, the program will have much more experience at its disposal than it does the rest of this spring.
