Alfred Collins to return to Texas for the 2024 season

Texas defensive tackle Alfred Collins will return to the Longhorns for the 2024 season, he announced on social media on Friday. Inside Texas previously reported he was expected to return to Texas for the program’s first season as members of the SEC.

The fifth season for the Bastrop (Texas) Cedar Creek product will be the result of the eligibility relief provided by the NCAA in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his career, Collins has 86 career tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, one interception, five passes defended, and one forced fumble.
Collins has appeared in 48 career games with the Longhorns with 12 starts, including five starts in the 2023 season.
In 2023, the 6-foot-5, 317-pounder posted 22 tackles with 2.0 for loss and two sacks, plus two passes defended. He set a season best in tackles with five versus Texas Tech, and followed that up with four tackles versus Washington in the 2024 Sugar Bowl as part of Texas’ appearance in the College Football Playoff. Collins was part of Texas’ second wave of defensive tackles behind the mainstays of T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy

In 2022, Collins tallied 17 tackles with 3.0 for loss and one sack in 12 games with one start. In 2021, he posted career highs in tackles (24), tackles for loss (5.0), and sacks (2.0) while forcing a fumble.
During his freshman season in 2020, Collins appeared in all 10 games during the pandemic shortened season. He made 23 tackles with 2.5 for loss, 1.5 sacks, and intercepted a pass during Texas’ bowl game versus Colorado.
In addition, Collins has five career PBUs with three during his freshman season and two during the most recent campaign.
