“I think our defense is really good,” Manning said. “Some days it’s not so fun. They’re a really good group, definitely good for me going against them. Those guys are good.”

That doesn’t mean it’s been all bad. Manning admitted he’s had good moments against the Longhorn defense. Those moments feed into times when getting out on the field is a lot of fun.

“I think for me, I think I’m playing best when I’m having fun,” Manning said. “I need to remind myself to have fun. We do all the preparation throughout the week and throughout this summer. Once we get out there, just cut it loose and have fun.”

Here’s more from Manning’s session with the media.

Manning talking about playing on the road: “It’s a different mentality. It’s us against the world on the road.”

Manning says he needs to be smart when running this year. Says every call with his grandfather Archie ends with “get down or get out of bounds.”

Manning says he gets a little bit nervous and anxious in the hotel ahead of games. “Once I get out there though, it’s time to roll.”

Manning says Matthew Caldwell offers Manning the chance to pick his brain and learn more from the college football veteran.

Manning named Parker Livingstone and Daylan McCutcheon as the two young players he’s connected with most so far.

“I think for the teams in previous years, I think Quinn (Ewers) did a really good job on the road. He had a ridiculous record on the road. So to learn from him and the teams last year to carry over this,” Manning on learning from Quinn Ewers as a road warrior ahead of Ohio State.

“It’s us against the world when you’re on the road,” – Manning

Manning: “When I first got here, I feel like the guys that had the most respect were the guys that worked hard and took it really seriously. I followed their lead, whether it was J-Whitt, Jonathon Brooks, Kelvin Banks, guys like that. Look where they’re at now. It kind of goes full circle.”

Manning on Christian Clark: “He can get in and out of cuts. Smart, tough.”

Manning: “I’m definitely honored that people think that (I’m a Heisman favorite). But I haven’t done anything yet. It’s about winning games at this point.”
