Manning, a redshirt sophomore from New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman, saw action in 10 games last year with two starts versus ULM and Mississippi State. He was 61-for-90 for 939 yards and nine touchdowns over two interceptions. He also rushed for four touchdowns, and was a critical part of the Longhorns’ short-yardage package late in the season.
Wisner, a junior from DeSoto (Texas), rushed for 1064 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games last season, averaging 4.7 yards per carry. He also notched 44 receptions for 411 yards and one touchdown. Wisner earned third-team All-SEC honors in 2024 and was a preseason first-team All-SEC selection a few weeks ago. He is the only 1000-yard rusher returning in the SEC in 2025.
The Maxwell often swerves and picks a national player of the year separate from the Heisman. Texas’ Colt McCoy won the award in 2009 even though Alabama’s Mark Ingram won the Heisman. In 2005, Vince Young was named the Maxwell Award winner while USC’s Reggie Bush won the Heisman by a significant margin.
Even last year, Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty was the Maxwell Award winner with Colorado’s Travis Hunter taking home the Heisman. In 2023, Michael Penix Jr. of Washington was named the recipient of the Maxwell although LSU’s Jayden Daniels was the Heisman winner.

There is overlap, however. From 2019 to 2022, the Maxwell and Heisman winners were the same players. That also applied in 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Semifinalists will be named on November 11 and finalists will be named November 25. The 89th Maxwell Award winner will be announced on December 11 at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
The Longhorns boast four Maxwell Award winners: Tommy Nobis in 1965, Ricky Williams in 1998, Young in 2005, and McCoy in 2009.
