BCS Report: Texas Falls Back to No. 3

by: Bridgeland073011/08/09
With an SEC title game looming between Florida and Alabama, the Texas Longhorns' position in the BCS may be a matter of semantics. But still, just as Texas moved up to No. 2 last week with a win over then-No. 14 Oklahoma State, the Crimson Tide regained its spot by passing the Longhorns in Sunday's BCS standings.
The Longhorns are still favored in the Harris Poll (.9516 to 'Bama's .9432) and in the Coaches' Poll (.9485 to .9417), but Texas trails Alabama thanks to a significant gap in the computer rankings (.970 to .870). In fact, the Longhorns also trail TCU (.880) and Cincinnati (.910) in the computer rankings but are at No. 3 thanks to a No. 2 ranking in both of the human components of the BCS system. Defending national champion Florida remains the No. 1 team in the BCS. One of the more significant movements is TCU jumping to No. 4. The Cincinnati Bearcats remained at No. 5 to round out the top five.
