Steve Sarkisian provides injury update on Texas RB Jonathon Brooks

Texas running back Jonathon Brooks went down with an apparent injury during the fourth quarter of UT’s 29-26 win over TCU from Amon G Carter Stadium in Fort Worth on Saturday night.

Brooks notched 67 yards rushing, and two touchdowns, while adding 74 yards receiving and three catches in the first half alone. Brooks was looking for his eighth 100-yard rushing game for 2023.

After being named a AP Midseason All American recently, Texas running back Jonathon Brooks eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark versus No. 23 Kansas State from Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday, November 4th.

Brooks, redshirt sophomore from Hallettsville (Texas) product needed 77 yards entering the day, during a breakout season in 2023. His 27-yard third quarter scamper allowed him to hit 1,000 yards rushing on the season.

He leads the Big 12 in rushing yards per game, all-purpose yards, rushing touchdowns, and total touchdowns with seven. He’s fourth in the country in rushing yards per game with 121.0, and is sixth in all-purpose yards per game with 141.17.

He has collected a number of midseason All-America accolades from a variety of outlets, including ESPN, CBS Sports, The Athletic, Fox Sports, and USA Today. He has rushed for 726 yards and six touchdowns on 108 carries.

Brooks stepped into the starting role after NFL running backs Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson left the Forty Acres last winter, and has become one of the best running backs in the nation. He eclipsed the 100-yard threshold versus Wyoming, Baylor, Kansas, and Oklahoma. His outing versus the Jayhawks was the best of his career, rushing 21 times for 218 yards and two touchdowns and adding 23 yards receiving.
