Braylen Griffin, son of DBU star Michael Griffin, is set to continue his family's D1 legacy

The Lake Travis Cavaliers are 8-0 and playing with a lot of confidence following their recent 31-10 victory over the Westlake Chaparrals. One of the biggest contributors to their undefeated season has been senior cornerback Michael ‘Braylen’ Griffin.

If the name sounds like royalty to Texas fans, it should. The 5-foot-10 175-pound Cavalier is the son of Longhorn DBU legend and former Tennessee Titans Pro Bowler Michael Griffin. The younger Griffin’s greatest priority is to continue contributing to a confident Lake Travis team, but he’s also eager to see where his football career takes him next.
He has scholarship offers from Missouri State, Colgate, Eastern Kentucky and Minnesota State. Recently, Griffin has been staying in touch with the coaching staffs of Texas State, Middle Tennessee and UTSA. He recently took in a Roadrunners game at the Alamodome. He’ll also be visiting the Blue Raiders on November the 8th when they take on FIU in Murfreesboro.
Griffin is very confident in his abilities and told Inside Texas he’s prioritizing development and a place where he can be prepared for life after football.
“I would like to find a home where I can play early at the next level, but I know it’s competitive and I am willing to do whatever I have to do to help my team win,” Griffin said.

On his father’s tutelage, Griffin feels like having an NFL veteran as a Dad helped him understand the game. “My father has taught me the defensive back position from every position on the field. I understand alignments and situational football, plus down and distance through hours of watching film with my father.”
Lake Travis defensive coordinator Ryan Luedecke added that Braylen has been a big part of the Cavaliers success this season. Luedecke added “he has embraced his role as a senior leader. He’s set the tone for our team with his work ethic, consistency, and focus — both in practice and on Friday nights. He’s one of those guys who makes everyone around him better. Most importantly, Braylen’s a great teammate and young man. He represents our program the right way on and off the field.”
Inside Texas was impressed with Griffin’s length, technique and abilities in man coverage when reviewing his Senior film. To date, Griffin has 26 tackles, 1 interception, 3 PBUs and 1 recovered fumble. The Cavaliers will close the season with Akins (10/31) and Austin High (11/6) before their playoff run. He’ll look to make a decision regarding his college career before signing day on December 3rd.
