ESPNU 150 Includes 10 Texas Commits

by: Bridgeland073008/05/09
The release of today’s ESPNU 150 ranking for the class of 2010 verified the immense amount of talent already assembled in Texas’ 2010 recruiting class. The Horns have the most ESPNU 150 members of any school in the country with 10, one more than defending national champion Florida and three more than Georgia.
The complete ESPNU 150 Where the ESPN Scouts, Inc. team loves the Texas class is at defensive tackle where the Horns have verbal commitments from the nation’s top two defensive tackle prospects – Denton Guyer’s Taylor Bible and John Tyler’s Ashton Dorsey.Bible, an Under Armour All-American selection, is the highest ranked Texas commitment coming in at No. 14 on the ESPNU 150. Dorsey (No. 44), Cedar Hill linebacker Aaron Benson (No. 51), Daingerfield receiver Chris Jones (No. 73) and Haltom defensive end Reggie Wilson (No. 100) give the Horns a total of five commitments ranked in the top 100. The five remaining Horns who landed on the initial list are DeSoto cornerback Adrian White, Garland linebacker Tevin Jackson, Lufkin defensive back Carrington Byndom, Garland athlete Adrian Phillips and Galena Park North Shore offensive lineman Trey Hopkins.A new added feature to the ESPN national rankings this year is the addition of the “star” ranking system. On the Scouts, Inc. grading scale, prospects rating at 79.5 or better received four-star status. There are only 12 five star prospects on the initial list with an ESPN five star rating being reserved for only the truly elite prospects."The star system is the industry standard and we feel like the system, combined with what we already do, provides a deeper experience," National Recruiting Director for Scouts, Inc. Tom Luginbill said. "Our pro personnel numerical grading system is an industry standard in scouting, but we realize the star system is fan friendly and media friendly and we embrace that."There are four Texas commits (Houston St. Pius X defensive end Greg Daniels, Alief Taylor defensive tackle DeAires Cotton, Houston Second Baptist quarterback Connor Wood and Cedar Park offensive lineman Dominic Espinosa) who did not make the 150 list but still received four star status."If you look around college football, there just aren't that many elite players on a yearly basis," Luginbill said. "For the last four years or so, there are not as many impact players who were ranked as a four-star or five-star as people think, so our numbers will be tapered back and reflect that. The reality is that most college football rosters are made up of three-star prospects."In addition to the commitments, Texas still has a shot at landing several highly rated prospects, including Plano West defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat – the No. 1 overall prospect on the ESPNU 150. Jeffcoat is joined in the top ten by fellow Texas targets Jordan Hicks (No. 2 overall) and Darius White (No. 8 overall).
