A new poll officially marks new heights for the Texas Longhorns, as the US LBM Coaches Poll has named Texas as the preseason No. 1 team.

With 1606 total points and 28 total first place votes (out of 67), the Longhorns beat out Ohio State at No. 2 and Penn State at No. 3 for the top spot.

This marks the first time the Longhorns have ever been the No. 1 team in the coaches poll, another feat to check off the list for head coach Steve Sarkisian entering his fifth year.

This also sets up a monumental matchup on August 30th, when the Longhorns will travel up to Columbus to face off against Ohio State. The No. 1 versus No. 2 matchup to begin the season is one of the rarest in the sport, and with the AP Poll coming out next week, there’s a chance both major polls see this as a matchup between the best in the nation.
