Sean Miller got the second commitment of his 2026 recruiting class today when he earned a pledge from Harvard-Westlake combo guard Joe Sterling.

Sterling is the No. 104 player in the country, the No. 26 shooting guard, and the no. 10 player in his home state of California according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He chose the Longhorns over UCSB, Washington State, New Mexico, and Northern Iowa. He also received offers from USC, Washington, USF, and plenty other schools.

He detailed to Inside Texas why he chose the Longhorns.

“Everything from Sean Miller and the coaching staff to their facilities and resources,” Sterling told Inside Texas. “They are in the best league in the country and have the mindset as a program, to compete against anyone. They have everything I could possibly need to become the best version of me.”

Sterling is an elite shooter that was included in Jamie Shaw’s article “The top 10 snipers in the 2026 Rivals 150” and connected on 44% of his three-point shots during the 2025 Pro16 session on over eight attempts per game. He will provide spacing for Miller’s team, and can be an asset eventually despite not being an elite athlete or defender.

The commitment signals a clear trend towards shooters for Miller – Bo Ogden is another player that can light it up from beyond the arc. Considering Miller’s system is predicated upon generating open looks for catch-and-shoot players, Sterling’s commitment makes a lot of sense for both parties. Hopefully, they can keep the momentum going as the fall rolls along.
