The first national signing day for college football is Wednesday, December 3. This series will give you the chance to familiarize yourself with the next class charged with keeping Texas near the top of the college football world.
To win at a consistently high level requires talented class after talented class. The top-10 2026 class does that following a No. 1 class in 2025.
On the first national signing day, Inside Texas will offer profiles of each member of the 2026 signing class. Up next, John Turntine III.
The Player:
John Turntine III, OT, Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley
The Rating:
94.35 (four-star)
The Ranking:
- No. 79 nationally
- No. 3 interior offensive lineman in the nation
- No. 10 overall player in Texas
The Highlights:
The Recruitment:
Turntine seemed to be a Texas lean for about 95% of his recruitment. His family loves Austin. His oldest sister graduated from the University of Texas and is now in grad school at UT. His other two older siblings—twins—attend Huston-Tillotson just down the street from campus.
Ever since Turntine camped in Austin two summers ago, Texas always felt like the place to be. He and his family connected strongly with Kyle Flood, the staff, the development on the Forty Acres, and everything Texas offered.
Things did get rocky during official visits. Turntine took trips to Michigan and Texas A&M and came very close to committing to the Aggies. He even almost skipped his official visit to Texas. But after some convincing — and with the help of Chris Gilbert — he made the trip to Austin.

That visit confirmed what he already knew in his heart: Texas was home. He committed on July 4th.
The Quote:
“Texas was always home for me. I love everything they’re building. It makes sense for me and my family. Texas is in the SEC and I feel like they’re fit to win a national championship soon. I just want to go and compete with other guys who are hungry like me, trying to prove something each day to get better.”
The Projection:
Turntine doesn’t care what position he plays. He just wants to drive people off the football. But early on, he projects as a tackle — someone who can start on the edge and anchor the line while still being able to slide inside if needed.
He’s a versatile offensive lineman who has shown on film he can play all five spots. When his number is called — whether it’s left tackle, right tackle, or an interior role — Turntine is going to give everything he has.
Depending on how his frame develops, he can also serve as an extra offensive lineman in heavy packages, functioning as a tight end in short-yardage or goal-line situations.
The Final Word:
Turntine brings hunger, maturity, and a winner’s mindset to the Forty Acres. He’s driven, focused, and committed to elevating everyone around him with his work ethic. He’s a no-nonsense kid who wants to work, chase greatness, win championships, and leave a legacy at Texas.
They don’t call him Dr. John for no reason — he’s extremely cerebral and plans to major in medicine.
Texas is getting a worker, a leader, and a future cornerstone of the offensive line.
