The first national signing day for college football is Wednesday, December 3. This series will give you the chance to familiarize yourself with the next class charged with keeping Texas near the top of the college football world.

To win at a consistently high level requires talented class after talented class. The top-10 2026 class does that following a No. 1 class in 2025.

On the first national signing day, Inside Texas will offer profiles of each member of the 2026 signing class. Up next, Rocky Cummings

The Recruitment: As the Justin Wilcox era approached its end at Cal, Texas and Johnny Nansen turned up the heat on Cummings. Nansen saw him in California and set up a visit shortly thereafter. Once Cummings played in his state title game, he ventured to Texas to solidify his spot in the class.

The Player: Rocky Cummings, LB, Carlsbad (Calif.)

The Rating: 87.77 (three-star)

The Ranking: Cummings is ranked as the No. 625 overall prospect, the No. 53 linebacker, and the No. 46 player in California in the Rivals Industry Ranking. Rivals ranks Cummings as the No. 43 linebacker and the No. 49 player in California.

The Highlights:

The Quote: “There’s a lot of reasons why I chose Texas,” Cummings said. “I loved the environment there and really liked the city of Austin. Texas has a winning tradition, I love the coaching staff and I love the plan they have for me.

The Projection: “They want to use me similar to how they currently play Trey Moore. I’ll be an outside linebacker who will also be able to rush the passer and I think it’s an all around perfect fit for me.”

The Final Word: Credit is due to the Sarkisian family for this one, not just Steve but also Brady since he hosted Cummings on his official visit. Texas needed to get the numbers right at linebacker and Cummings was the guy they sought as the 2026 cycle approached its close.
