Inside Texas member Q&A hits on myriad preseason camp topics

With the Texas Longhorns taking the day off, Inside Texas takes the time to answer whatever questions community members have on their mind.
In typical fashion, one of the first questions related to concerns for the season. Even though Texas is arguably the best team in the country, there are always concerns. We discuss the offensive line but also the unknown. There are things you can’t know, even the Texas coaches can’t know, until they’re under the stress of a game environment. On the flip side, Texas might have strengths we don’t know about yet. Corner coverage, perhaps?
Readers wondered where there’s depth chart clarity and where the depth chart is still murky. Given the amount of competition within the program, rotations largely aren’t settled. Only three positions, have a clear-ish depth chart—QB, OL, and LB. We could maybe throw RB in the mix but we still don’t know how many carries CJ Baxter will get early in the season. That isn’t to say we don’t know who the starters are—we largely do—but who is directly behind them?
Take Edge for example. We know Ethan Burke and Colin Simmons will start, but recent practice intel informs us that Colton Vasek has been playing behind both Burke and Simmons. But, at the same time, we’ve heard really good things about Zina Umeozulu. Then there’s Brad Spence! With so many mouths to feed it’s hard to know hierarchy within positions.

With the opener being against Ohio State, of course we field a number of questions on how that game sets up against the defending National Champions. I like Texas for a number of reasons I outline in the Q&A.
