ITYT: Two QB's in 2026, DT deployment and recruiting, CB recruiting, more

This morning, the Inside Texas live chat responded to a handful of reader and viewer questions. LC, Ian Boyd, and Eric Nahlin were on hand to provide as much depth and clarity as possible on the topics presented.

One prominent question recruiting fans have, is, who should Steve Sarkisian target as the 2026 quarterback take? Nahlin states it should be a two quarterback class, so both Troy Huhn and Dia Bell would be more than welcome. Those two signal callers will participate at Texas’ June 1 Elite Camp.

Boyd fielded a question about defensive tackles and how Pete Kwiatkowski has traditionally deployed the position. This is another common question in the aftermath of Texas losing Byron Murphy and T’Vondre Sweat to the NFL. Both Boyd and Nahlin aren’t as worried about D-tackle as some others, though the position will obviously look different this upcoming season.

With the interior defensive line in mind, viewer David Parcell asked about the priority targets in recruiting. Texas defensive tackles coach Kenny Baker has a lot of work to do at the position but given the importance in this cycle the coaching staff should be able to put together a quality class. In recent years, the bigger the need the more resolute Texas has been to address that need.

Nahlin mentions how Lufkin’s Zion Williams fits the big body archetype PK prefers at the position. The only problem, LSU is also in hot pursuit of the 6-foot-4, 330-pounder from East Texas.

Another recruiting question concerned cornerback recruiting. Should Texas fans be concerned? Nahlin was assertive Texas fans should not be concerned, but should rather be patient. In general it’s a patient staff but Terry Jospeh in particular has demonstrated patience in his time at Texas. The results have been very good on the recruiting trail. Just last year his patience was rewarded with Kobe Black and Wardell Mack.

The panel then discusses how NFL Draft results haven’t been what Texas hopes for, but there’s context to that. D’Shawn Jamison had by far his best year under the direction of the current staff, Ryan Watts was just drafted, and Malik Muhammad is guaranteed to be drafted in the early rounds if he continues on his current trend-line.

Go for a walk, put this on, and listen to the above topics and many more.
