What Juluke brings to the table

IT SCOOP: Ex-Florida RB coach Jabbar Jukuke is a person of interest

Louisiana ties run deep for Juluke, who rose to the college ranks thanks to over a decade of strong seasons at the high school level. Skip Holtz gave him his first opportunity in 2013, and he hasn’t looked back since. Not only has Juluke recruited Louisiana and the southeast well, he’s helped some very talented backs achieve great seasons. He even has a year of experience coaching in Texas, but his work at LSU, LA Tech, and Louisiana saw him cross the Sabine River often.

Juluke has several notable names on his resume like Baugh, Thompson, Webb, and Trevor Etienne. Sarkisian loves to mention how he had a streak of 1000-yard rushers that was unfortunately snapped this year. Juluke probably has a similar pitch when on the trail.

Juluke is not the perfect candidate as he was suspended for three games during the 2025 season as a result of his actions in an altercation following Florida’s loss at LSU. But that appears to be the only blemish on his resume and it can be safely labeled a bug as opposed to a feature.

There are other SEC schools interested in Juluke after Jon Sumrall elected not to keep the Southern University grad on staff, namely Kentucky.

Juluke offers connections across the I-10 and I-20 corridors, has put a number of quality backs into the league, and gives real effort on the trail. After Scott was let go Tuesday, Juluke would be the type of hire that helps Sarkisian and company in SEC country. Juluke shouldn’t be viewed as a retread, but rather someone who could seriously elevate the coaching and talent in the running back room and even other positions as well thanks to over 10 years of coaching across the south.

Texas just completed a 9-3 regular season with losses to Ohio State, Florida, and Georgia and was left out of the College Football Playoff despite wins over Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt. It’s the first time since 2022 that the Longhorns have been left out of the College Football Playoff and failed to play for its conference championship.

The Longhorns will have plenty to do in the offseason ahead of 2026, including preparing for what is likely Arch Manning’s final season plus replacing defensive standouts like Michael Taaffe, Ethan Burke, and several others.

The program will be making changes throughout the offseason after signing the No. 10 class according to Rivals. The transfer portal opens on January 2, and the Longhorns will undoubtedly be active in that portion of the talent acquisition cycle.
