Simon mentioned he’s been silently committed to Texas for about a month.

“I knew about a good month or two ago,” Simon said. “Just continually going down there and knowing that it always felt like home. They just showed me consistent love, I was consistently valued and a top priority for them. I knew it was time to be home.”

Simon offered that silent commitment on the ride back from his visit to Austin for the Orange-White Game

“I let (Steve Sarkisian) and (Tashard) Choice know the day I got back from the Spring game,” Simon said. “I had a long ride home and had a long talk with them. I figured everything out then. Once I figured everything out and just knew what I wanted, I let them know.”

Not lacking for confidence, Simon believes he could be one of the best to ever play at Texas.

“Y’all for sure are going to get a dog, definitely something y’all have not seen before at the running back position,” Simon said. “Y’all have seen some great talent at the running back position, but I definitely don’t think you’ve seen anything like me yet.”

Simon is ranked as the No. 167 overall prospect, the No. 9 running back, and the No. 4 player in Louisiana according to the On3 Industry Ranking. On3 ranks Simon as the No. 115 overall prospect, the No. 8 running back, and the No. 4 player in Louisiana.

Simon’s mother approves the pick

Cecelia Simon, James’ mother, was excited to see her son commit to the Longhorns.

“I am excited that the process is over, but I do believe that Texas’ actions spoke louder than their words,” Cecelia said. “A lot of people had a lot to say in what they were going to do, but Texas is doing it. We believe that he will be in the best care with Coach Sark, his wife, and Coach Choice. I would not have wanted him at any other school.”
