Updates below.

Texas HC Steve Sarkisian: “Obviously, it was an exciting game with exciting plays.”

Steve Sarkisian mentions scoring on the game’s first drive as a positive as well as scoring 7 touchdowns on the team’s first nine possessions. — “It was definitely an explosive game for us. I think we had 20 explosive plays and a variety of guys creating those explosive plays.”

Steve Sarkisian: “Defensively, a lot of guys played. The idea that we had five sacks I believe by five different players in the game is a good sign. 10 TFLs split amongst 10 different players. That’s a great sign that a lot of guys are playing and doing it at a high level.”

Steve Sarkisian: “All in all, through the ‘preseason’ we’ve played 87 players so far through four games. Eight different guys have scored touchdowns, nine different guys have carried the ball, 16 different guys have caught passes, we have 11 sacks through four games and that’s split up amongst 10 different guys. All in all, we’re playing a lot of players and now we have a pretty good sense and feel of who we are.”

Steve Sarkisian says he likes to go out and recruit during the by week. Someone who Sark likes to get on the road this time of year? Chris Gilbert

Steve Sarkisian: “Chris does a great job. He’s a really good evaluator. He’s got good rapport with not only the players we’re recruiting but their families. He’s very relatable to the high school coaches. Chris is active on that front. Some guys may be out one day and then not the next day because we’re trying to preserve some days for later in the season. I think we’ve got a good plan for this week. We’ll be very active knowing we have the two byes, we have one later in the year.”

Steve Sarkisian: “There’s nobody in our league that looked at their schedule and said ‘oh yeah, that’s a win.’ You better come ready to play because everybody is is well equipped coaching wise, everybody’s well equipped personnel wise. There’s some tough places to go play that you’ve got to be mentally prepared to play as well as physically prepared to play.”

Steve Sarkisian: “We have a bunch of guys that love football. They like to watch football. One of the easiest things to do is turn on the tape. When you turn on the tape, to watch overall schemes is one thing. When you watch a particular player that you’re probably going to be competing against and you see the level of player in the way they play to go with the scheme and what they’re asking them to do, it usually gets our guys’ attention.”

Steve Sarkisian on RB: “I think that’s what this week is for. We’ve really got to assess, as Tre and C4 start finding their way back and now we’ve got five guys that have carried the ball and we know can carry the ball. We start to look at their strengths and areas of maybe where we think they can improve and need to improve, then how do you balance that out? What does that look like? That’s what a week like this is for.”

Sarkisian mentions Texas will have three practices this week.

Steve Sarkisian says Tre Wisner, who will have missed about a month when the Florida game comes up, is engaged: “He’s in it. He’s connected. On the sidelines, that guy is very engaged. He’s talking to the young running backs. He’s understanding the game plan. He’s in every install meeting. He’s at practice as much as he’s rehabbing. When he’s not in, he’s working. I’m not as concerned about a guy like him because of the engagement that he has all the way through.”

Steve Sarkisian says he’s learned this team is better when it’s loose and more fun: “They’re better when they can have a level of intensity but yet still have fun doing it. Sometimes this group can go a little too far because want to do it right so well, then they don’t perform at their best.”

Steve Sarkisian says “I feel like our penalties are high for my liking. I think we can play cleaner football.”
