Quinn Ewers named starter for the Miami Dolphins
Following a tough loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night, Miami Dolphins head coach has benched starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in favor of a name many Longhorn fans are fond of: Quinn Ewers
It was announced this morning that the 2025 7th round pick would start this Sunday against the Bengals, a home game in Miami, in its third-to-last game of the season. This decision comes on the back of the Dolphins being eliminated from playoff contention with their loss to Pittsburgh.
Ewers played three seasons in Austin for the Texas Longhorns, completing over 700 career passes for 9128 yards and 76 total touchdowns.
Ewers led the 2023 and 2024 Longhorns to two College Football Playoff Semifinal appearances, winning the Big 12 Title Game MVP in 2023 when the Longhorns dominated Oklahoma State.
Ewers currently sits third in completions, touchdowns and yards in Longhorn history, and no QB averages more yards per game in burnt orange.
Ewers was taken 233rd overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, and entered the year as the third QB on the Dolphins depth chart, sitting behind Tagovailoa and former top pick Zach Wilson.

Ewers has appeared in just one game in 2025, taking 10 snaps and completing five passes on eight attempts for 53 yards. His most impressive throw came on a sideline shot to Dee Eskeridge.
Ewers becomes the first Longhorn QB to start an NFL game since 2022, when both Sam Ehlinger and Colt McCoy took snaps as a starter for the Colts and Cardinals, respectively.
Ewers is the 12th former Longhorn QB to play in the NFL, and the first to be drafted since Ehlinger in 2021.
