Sarkisian, who is entering his fifth season as head coach of the Longhorns, is the subject of the cover story that is titled “SARK: Rebuilding Texas His Way.” Sarkisian is 38-17 as head coach of the Longhorns and 84-52 overall.

Sarkisian joins a number of Longhorn head coaches who have graced the cover of the Bible of Texas Football, including Darrell Royal (1963, 1974), David McWilliams (1987), John Mackovic (1996), Mack Brown (1999), and Tom Herman (2017). A Texas coach or player has been featured prominently on the cover on the 1960, 1961, 1963, 1966, 1969, 1970, 1973, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1988, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2015, 2019, and 2024 covers.

In years following the Longhorn head coach being on the DCTF cover, Texas has posted varying levels of success. The Longhorns won the program’s first national championship in 1963 after Royal and Scott Appleton were on the cover. In ’74, the Longhorns went 8-4 and 5-2 in the Southwest conference with a Bluebonnet Bowl win.

McWilliams’ 1987 team went 7-5 and 5-2 in the Southwest Conference after a cover appearance. The Longhorns won the 1987 Bluebonnet Bowl.

In 1996, Mackovic’s Longhorns went 8-5 but posted a 6-2 record during Texas’ debut season in the Big 12, defeating Nebraska to win the first Big 12 Championship. The Longhorns lost in the Fiesta Bowl.

After Ricky Williams‘ Heisman season in 1998, Brown was featured on the 1999 cover. Texas went 9-5, losing in the Big 12 Championship to Nebraska and falling in the Cotton Bowl.

Herman’s 2017 Longhorns went 7-6 and won the 2017 Texas Bowl during his debut season in Austin.

Celina (Texas) head coach Bill Elliott plus top prospects Bowe Bentley and Luke Biagini were on the gatefold cover.
