Tre (Wisner), he’s got a leg injury. We held him today,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said. “We just didn’t think it was the right thing to do to force the issue with him. I wanted Christian (Clark) to play more, I wanted Jerrick (Gibson) to get opportunities, and so it worked out for us that way.”

Wisner will be fine going forward, C.J. Baxter assured reporters, saying he brought the same amount of energy that you usually expect from Wisner when he’s healthy. That really showed with his jewelry on the sideline, holding the chains of his teammates on the field.

Wisner and defensive tackle Alex January rested for Saturday’s game against the Spartans after playing a full game against Ohio State the week prior.

“Alex is another guy that we held out this week. Could we have thrust him into action, or not? I know we’ve got a really deep defensive line room. And again, I think about the big picture here with a lot of these injuries, especially early in the season. I think about the long road that we’re hoping to go on. I think about the depth on our roster, and I just don’t feel like we have to press guys into action that aren’t healthy enough or that could further injure themselves,” Sarkisian said.

DeAndre Moore suffered an injury during the game, heading into the medical tent five minutes into the second half. He didn’t return to the game, mostly as a precaution from Sarkisian.

“He got dinged,” Sarkisian said. “You know, I couldn’t see it from where it occurred, but he definitely got dinged and we held him after that right there.”

Edge rusher Colin Simmons also left the field hurt, this one later in the second half, resulting in an injury timeout for the Longhorns. Sarkisian didn’t note the injury when asked about Simmons, and he seemed healthy by the end of the game, appearing on the Texas football X profile.

Those were the only players mentioned by Sarkisian, and though some other players received harsh games of contact like Michael Taaffe and the interior offensive line, the roster seems fairly healthy going forward.

The goal is to be as close to 100% as possible heading into the Florida game a month from now, so Sarkisian will continue to use caution when it comes to his best players’ health.
